Senior Mechanical Design Engineer | Colchester area | £50,000-£70,000 + benefits

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys developing machinery from concept through to completion?

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing company in the Colchester area, designing bespoke automated machinery and precision handling systems.

This is a hands-on design role where you'll use SolidWorks to develop completely new machines, working alongside electrical and software engineers to bring your designs to life.

Duties

• Design and develop special-purpose machinery from concept through to completion
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
• Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components
• Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems
• Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment
• Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements

Requirements

• Strong mechanical design background, ideally within special-purpose machinery or automation
• Experience designing new machinery from initial concept
• Excellent 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks
• Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes
• Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling systems would be advantageous
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience
