An established and growing organisation is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join its friendly finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and analytical individual with strong Excel skills and some finance or payroll experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and fast-paced environment.This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys working with large volumes of data, has a strong eye for detail, and is confident using Excel to manipulate, analyse, and update information.The RoleReporting to the Payroll Lead, you will play a key role in supporting payroll operations, maintaining employee data, and providing a high level of service to employees and stakeholders. A significant part of the role involves working with payroll data, updating records, carrying out data validation checks, and using Excel to investigate and resolve discrepancies.You will also be responsible for managing the payroll inbox and handling payroll-related telephone queries, ensuring all requests are dealt with professionally and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly payroll process by accurately maintaining payroll information and employee records.
  • Manage and respond to payroll queries received via the payroll inbox and telephone line.
  • Update payroll records for starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, absences, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Work extensively with payroll and HR data, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Use Excel functions including VLOOKUPs, data matching, filtering, sorting, and reconciliations to analyse and update payroll information.
  • Investigate discrepancies within payroll and employee data and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with pension administration and payroll reporting requirements.
  • Produce regular reports and data extracts for finance and management teams.
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with company procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Support finance and payroll projects aimed at improving processes and data accuracy.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within a payroll, finance, accounts, administration, or data-focused role.
  • Strong Excel skills, including experience using VLOOKUPs, formulas, filtering, sorting, and working with large data sets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Experience dealing with queries by telephone and email in a professional manner.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Payroll experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
