In a modern enterprise environment, seamless data integration and robust database architecture are vital for breaking down operational silos and managing risk effectively. Randstad are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to take ownership of the performance, security, and evolution of the production databases and cloud-based data infrastructure.

You will play a central role in ensuring multi-product software ecosystem remains scalable, resilient, and highly available. This is an opportunity to directly shape our shared data solutions, helping business and clients move away from fragmented data towards a unified, intelligence-driven platform.

Package

• Base salary of £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, salary sacrifice pension scheme, Electric Vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice initiative, and exclusive retail/tech discounts.
• Fully remote working arrangement, 25 days paid annual leave plus standard bank holidays, volunteer days, and religious holiday swaps

Responsibilities

• Responsible for keeping core software platforms running smoothly, securely, and efficiently.
• Ensure data flows reliably across products while protecting sensitive information and safeguarding business continuity.
• Actively monitor, maintain, and fine-tune multiple production MySQL and SQL Server databases, driving improvements in query performance, indexing, and overall system configuration.
• Design and implement shared data solutions that unify information across core software platforms, enabling integrated reporting and intelligence.
• Enforce strict database security measures, including role-based access controls, auditing, encryption, and patch management to maintain compliance with industry standards.
• Design and test geo-redundant backup and disaster recovery strategies, alongside managing controlled database releases using modern version control processes.
• Working alongside product managers, software engineers, and senior technical leaders, you will help align database architecture with broader product roadmaps and technical standards.
• You will establish proactive monitoring and alerting to manage capacity, alongside providing occasional out-of-hours support for planned maintenance or critical incidents when needed.

Requirements

• Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• You should combine deep technical knowledge with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Experience managing production MySQL and SQL Server database environments.
• Strong expertise in performance tuning, including indexing strategies, query optimisation, and server configuration.
• Practical experience working with cloud platforms (Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform) and managed cloud database services.
• Experience writing, reviewing, and fine-tuning complex queries
• Solid understanding of database security best practices, disaster recovery planning, and schema deployments using version control tools
• Demonstrated ability to set up automated health checks, monitoring, and capacity planning tools.
